What's inside

Four tabs, wired to the same verified rates as our calculators (US rates, verified Oct 21, 2026):

  1. Pricing formula — reverse-engineer a price from your costs (next section shows the math)
  2. Fee auto-calcs — the full Etsy stack per sale: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing, Offsite Ads optional line
  3. Profit tracker — log each sale; fees compute themselves; margin per item and per month
  4. Tax-season summary — gross sales, total fees, net — the three numbers your accountant asks for first

UK sellers: the US tab travels, but UK processing (4% + £0.20) and the 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee differ — use the UK calculator alongside.

How to price Etsy items in 3 steps

Step 1 — Add up your true cost per item. Materials + your labour at an honest hourly rate + shipping packaging + the $0.20 listing fee. If you don't pay yourself, the spreadsheet will quietly show your "profit" is a wage you donated.

Step 2 — Set a target profit per item. A real number, not "whatever's left." This is the number the formula protects.

Step 3 — Reverse the fee stack. Etsy's percentages come off the top, so solve for price:

The formula the template runs price = (cost + target profit + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − percentage rates) — with the current US stack, 6.5% transaction + 3% processing as the percentages, $0.25 processing + $0.20 listing as the fixed. Etsy: fees (official) ↗ Verified 2026-10-21 ↗

With the current US stack, a $12.00 cost and $10.00 target profit prices at $24.81: fees $2.80, you net $22.01, covering the $12.00 cost plus the $10.00 you targeted (worked and table-verified against our rate card, verified Oct 21, 2026).

LineAmount
Cost per item$12.00
Target profit$10.00
List price = (12 + 10 + 0.45) ÷ 0.905$24.81
Etsy fees at $24.81$2.80
You keep$22.01 — cost + target, covered

The template does this arithmetic per row; the point of knowing the formula is spotting which lever moves most — at these rates, every £/$1 of price adds roughly 9.5¢ of fee, so cost cuts fall straight to profit.

Template vs calculator

Use both, for different moments: the calculator answers "what does this one listing pay?" in seconds; the template answers "what should my whole shop's prices be, and what did I actually make this quarter?" If you price more than a few items a week, the template wins on speed; if you're evaluating one item, the calculator wins.

Pricing mistakes that kill margin

Four we see constantly, all with numbers attached:

  1. Ignoring Offsite Ads in the plan. 15% of attributed orders if you're under $10,000/365 days (you can opt out), 12% if you're over (mandatory, never reverts), capped at $100 per order. A price computed without the 15% line can lose a fifth of its planned margin the day an ad converts. (Verified Oct 21, 2026.)
  2. Forgetting the fixed fees on low-priced items. $0.20 + $0.25 = $0.45 before any percentage — on a $5 item that's already 9% gone.
  3. Pricing shipping into the percentage. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to item + shipping + gift wrap; "free shipping" priced into the item raises the fee base too.
  4. Using a stale rate card. Etsy's stack has changed before and will again — the template's fee tab is stamped with our verification date so you know when to re-check.

For taxes

The tax-season summary tab exists because fee records are tax records: your gross minus documented fees is what you'll reconcile at filing — and your reporting obligation exists with or without a 1099-K. Etsy 1099-K thresholds, forms and the $600 rumor, handled here: Etsy 1099-K thresholds →

FAQ

Is the Etsy pricing template free?

Yes — free for your email, Excel and Google Sheets versions, no paid tier. The fee formulas ship pre-filled with our verified US rate card (verified Oct 21, 2026).

How do I price Etsy items to make a profit?

Work backwards: price = (cost + target profit + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − percentage rates). With the current US stack, a $12.00 cost and $10.00 target profit prices at $24.81 — fees $2.80, net $22.01. The template runs this per item.

Does the template include Etsy's fees?

Yes — $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing, plus an optional Offsite Ads line (15%/12%, $100 cap), all version-stamped to the same verified rate card our calculators use.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes — both Excel and Google Sheets versions are included; formulas are plain arithmetic, no add-ons required.

Does it work for UK sellers?

The structure does, the rates don't: UK processing is 4% + £0.20 and UK sellers pay the 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee. Pair the template with our UK Etsy calculator for the £-correct stack.
